:: COMPOSITIONS ::

ECLID 50
Each tablet of ECLID 50 contains:
Acarbose 50 mg

ECLID 100
Each tablet of ECLID 100 contains:
Acarbose 100 mg

 
:: INDICATION ::

Adjunctive therapy for diabetes mellitus in combination with diet.

 
:: CONTRAINDICATIONS ::
  • Hypersensitive to acarbose and/or any ingredients in the drug.
  • Chronic intestinal disorders associated with absorption and indigestion.
  • Conditions which can caused severity as the result of gas production in the intestinal (e.g. Roemheld’s syndrome, major hernia, intestinal obstruction, ulcer)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, e.g. ulcerative colitis and Crohn;s disease, partial intestinal obstruction or predisposed intestinal or ileus obstruction.
  • Acarbose should not be used in patient with severe renal impairment (CrCl < 25 ml/min).
  • Acarbose should not be used during pregnancy.
 
:: DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATIONS ::

Dose should be adjusted by physician according to patients needed. Except which has been adjusted, the recommended dose of acarbose is:

Initial dose:
1 tablet 50 mg acarbose 3 times daily or ½ tablet 100 mg acarbose 3 times daily.

Maintenance dose:
2 tablet 50 mg acarbose 3 times daily or 1-2 tablet 100 mg acarbose 3 times daily.

Dose can be increase after 4-8 weeks, and if patient show inadequate clinical response after further treatment. Average dose is 300 mg daily (2 tablet 50 mg acarbose 3 times daily or 1 tablet 100 mg acarbose 3 times daily).

The whole tablet should be swallowed with mineral water before meals or chewed with the first uptake meals.

Elderly (>65 years)
There is no dose or frequency adjustment related to age.

Hepatic impairment:
There is no dose adjustment for patient with history of hepatic impairment.

 
:: WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS ::

Monitoring liver function should be conducted during the first 6-12 months of therapy. In evaluated cases, this changing is reversible after discontinued the drug.

Keep the diabetic dietary during treatment with acarbose.

 
:: ADVERSE REACTIONS ::

Flatulence is very common. Diarrhea and abdominal pain is common. Nausea is rare.

If diabetic dietary has not been observed, intestinal adverse reactions will be very apparent.

If there is severe symptom consult your doctor and the dose should be decreased.

Patients who received recommended daily dose 150-300 mg are rarely experience abnormal liver function test (increasing 3 fold than normal). The abnormal test can be occur during treatment with acarbose.
